Power supply for the upcoming WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 has been fully secured to ensure the event runs smoothly, with more than 1,400 competitors expected from 74 countries and regions, according to the State Grid Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Co.

Scheduled to run from Sept 22 to 27, the event, dubbed the "Skills Olympics", will turn the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) into a global stage for competitors, while the Mercedes-Benz Arena hosts the opening and closing ceremonies.



To meet the stringent power quality requirements of high-definition live broadcasts and precision competition equipment at the 48th WorldSkills Competition, State Grid Shanghai will physically isolate the venues' core power supply areas from the municipal grid, enabling independent operation and power supply, said Liu Kai, an official with State Grid Shanghai's electric power company in Pudong New Area.

"This will create a highly stable, clean and reliable power system dedicated to the event," Liu said.

At the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) in Qingpu district, where power loads spike sharply during competition hours, the site's digital twin smart power protection system has been upgraded to enable round-the-clock monitoring and real-time intelligent assessment of power supply risks, said Fu Huimin, a customer specialist at State Grid Shanghai's power supply company in Qingpu district.

As part of its efforts to support the green goals of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, State Grid Shanghai has allocated about 8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity from green power sources, helping make the event a model for hosting major international events in a more sustainable way.
