Park to link water bodies   2016-05-23

QINGPU District is planning to build a circular waterfront park around Dianshan Lake New Town, the district government said.

According to the district water authority, the park will link the new town's four major water bodies — Dianpu Creek, Youdun Harbor, Xidayin Harbor and Shangda Creek — and green spaces to form a 21km ring for both aquatic and land activities such as jogging. Six wetland parks will be established at the mouths of the creeks.

"It will be a park for residents to enjoy recreational activities," said Wang Weiwei, an official with the Qingpu District Water Authority. "Pocket parks — small parks accessible to the general public — are popular in the Western world. They are very close to residents and it only requires a small piece of land for them to be created."
