Project aims to attract birds 2016-09-01
AN ecological restoration project aimed at attracting more wild birds to a wetland in suburban Jinshan District will be completed by the end of the year, the district government said yesterday, adding that it is about 80 percent completed.
The 232,000-square-meter wetland near Jinshan City Beach, to be named "Parrot Island" because of its shape, will become part of a national ocean park that the district government plans to establish by 2020.
With an investment of 92.4 million yuan (US$13.8 million), mostly from the central government, the wetland project will have three main objectives: purifying the water, restoring the salt marsh and creating an attractive habitat for local birds.
