THE Bund, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Xujiahui Cathedral and Jinmao Tower are among 13 local sites listed as China's architectural masterpieces in the 20th century.

The Chinese Society of Cultural Relics and the Architectural Society of China named 98 architectural places across the nation for the first batch of sites to be put on the 20th Century Chinese Architectural Heritage List to make the public aware of the importance of preserving historic heritage.

"The list aims to make the public be aware of the protection on the modern architectural legacies," said Cao Yongkang, director with the International Research Center for Architectural Heritage Conservation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
