A global competition has given the city's top planners a choice of designs for redeveloping several downtown landmarks.
The competition invited both professional and amateur designers to redevelop Xujiahui and Hengshan-Fuxing roads in Xuhui District and Zhangjiang High-tech Park in Pudong New Area.
The Shanghai Stadium and Shanghai Gymnasium along with a nearby swimming pool and other sports facilities will be redeveloped into Xujiahui Sports Park, according to the Shanghai Planning, Land and Resources Administration.
