New e-tolls on city expressways 2017-03-06
CITY expressways will get another 25 toll gates with electronic toll collection (ETC) systems to deal with about 450,000 more vehicles, the Shanghai Road Administration Bureau said yesterday.
The bureau didn’t say which gates would be upgraded, but said the goal is to get 50 percent of the entire expressway traffic through ETC gates by the end of 2019 to relieve congestion.
About a third of the 1.1 million vehicles on expressways each day use ETC gates, up 29 percent from a year ago. There are already 290 ETC gates.
