More than 300 fencers from 31 countries and regions competed during the three-day Westgate Mall Fencing Grand Prix Shanghai in Jing’an District.

British fencer Richard Kruse, who won the European Fencing Championships in 2006, was crowned in the men’s foil. Russian fencer Inna Deriglazova, who got the gold medal in the 2016 Olympics, became the champion for women’s foil.

The competition has been held in Jing’an for 15 years. Jing’an has produced several great fencers, like Wang Lei who won the gold medal at the male épée 2006 World Fencing Championships, and Zhong Weiping who won the gold medal in the women's épée team event in the same competition. Now, the district has 254 registered fencers.
