More than 50,000 local high school students on Thursday started sitting the annual three-day gaokao, the university entrance examination.

There are more than 2,000 test rooms at 99 sites across the city this year.

Video inspection systems, radio systems to prevent cheating, student identity verification machines and emergency response command systems are all ready, trying to make sure the exam, one of the most important in China, goes on smoothly.
