I．General Introduction

Name: China International Import Expo

In May 2017, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation that China will hold the China International Import Expo starting from 2018. It is a significant move for the Chinese government to give firm support to trade liberalization and economic globalization, while actively open up the Chinese market to the world. China sincerely welcomes officials, business executives, exhibitors and buyers to take part in CIIE and to expand in the Chinese market. Teaming up with international organizations, we expect to make the CIIE a world-class convention, creating new channels for global trade while facilitating world economy and prosperity.

2. Three Parts of the Exhibition

Country Pavilion for Trade & Investment: The area is about 30,000 square meters. The relevant countries and regions will be invited to participate in CIIE to showcase their achievements of trade and investment, including trade in goods and services, industries, investment and tourism, as well as representative products of the countries or regions with distinct features. It is exclusively reserved for country exhibitions, not for business transactions.

Enterprise & Business Exhibition: It has two sectors, namely, trade of goods, and trade of services. Trade of goods covers an area of 180,000 square meters, including exhibitions of consumer electronics & appliances; apparel, accessories & consumer goods; automobile; high-end intelligent equipment; food & agricultural products and medical equipment & health care products. Trade of services covers around 30,000 square meters, including new and emerging technology; service outsourcing, innovative design, culture & education and tourism services.

Hongqiao International Trade Forum: This forum, including an opening ceremony and three parallel forums, will focus on such topics as “trade and opening”, “trade and innovation” and “trade and investment”. It will invite political, business and academic leaders to discuss on the promotion of global trade and the world economic prosperity, while offering their advice. In addition, WTO, UNIDO and other related international organizations will be invited as cooperators to offer intellectual and technical support for the forum.

II．Hongqiao International Trade Forum

1. Background

Following the overall goals of the import expo and the new trends of and changes in the international and domestic economic and trade development, this forum reflects the new idea of open development, and focuses on the promotion of open, inclusive, balanced and win-win economic globalization and the construction of open world economy, so as to accelerate the global trade growth.

Government officials, business leaders and scholars will gather in the largest convention and exhibition center in the world - the National Exhibition and Convention Center, to freely discuss on the world economic trend, address key problems in the international trade development, exchange views on new economy and new business models, and offer suggestions on the international trade development in the new era.

2. Contents

This forum, including an opening ceremony and three parallel forums, will focus on such topics as "trade and opening", "trade and innovation", and "trade and investment", and mainly discuss on, inter alia, the promotion of trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, the construction of an open world economy, the boosting of trade innovation growth and the acceleration of sustainable development of trade and investment. In addition, WTO, UNIDO and other related international organizations will be invited as cooperators to offer intellectual and technical support.

The Chinese government sincerely welcomes political leaders and think tanks from industrial and academic circles as well as media professionals to the forum. We long for cooperation with all parties to build the forum into a platform for high-level dialogue where political leaders and professionals from industrial and academic circles can jointly discuss frontier issues of material science and international trade. This will contribute to the development of global trade and economy.

III Background Information about the China International Import Expo

1. China has a huge market with consumption and import rising at a very fast pace.

With the world's largest population, China is the second largest economy, as well as the second largest importer and consumer in the world. Now China has entered a new development stage at which consumption keeps increasing, indicating enormous potential for the growth of consumption and import. In the next five years, China is expected to import products and services valued at more than 10 trillion U.S. dollars, which provides a historic opportunity for enterprises across the world to enter the huge Chinese market.

2. Shanghai to continue leverage its ideal geographical advantage to connect with other domestic cities. Located in the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone, Shanghai enjoys favorable location advantage, great economic strength, well-developed service industries and the ability to allocate global resources. The container throughput of Shanghai Port has been ranked the first place for seven consecutive years. The passenger throughput of airport has exceeded 100 million, with flight network covering 282 cities around the world.

3. Apart from the large scale of exhibition, a wide range of relevant activities will also be held. Enterprises from over 100 countries and regions are expected to participate in the first CIIE. Supporting activities such as supply-demand matchmaking meetings, seminars and product releases will be held during the expo.

4. The CIIE will facilitate exhibitors' participation in terms of customs clearance, inspection and quarantine, provide long-term one-stop transaction services online and offline, and strengthen protection of intellectual property rights to safeguard the rights and interests of merchants.

5. The CIIE has attracted professional procurement companies and merchants have strong sourcing demand. The CIIE will invite Chinese enterprises from across country to come to do business. Merchants from other countries will also be invited to the expo. It's estimated that 150,000 domestic and foreign professional procurement companies will participate in the expo.

IV Introduction of the Venue of the China International Import Expo

National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) is the world's largest single block building and exhibition complex with a total construction area of nearly 1.5 million square meters. Facilities at NECC (Shanghai) include exhibition halls, the commercial plaza, office buildings and a hotel. These four facilities are linked together by an 8-meter-high elevated Exhibition Boulevard so that people can easily traverse these functional areas.

NECC (Shanghai) covers a total exhibition space of 500,000 square meters, including 400,000 square meters of indoor exhibition hall and 100,000 square meters of outdoor area. The indoor exhibition area consists of 13 big halls with each covering an area of 30,000 square meters, and 3 small halls with each covering an area of 10,000 square meters, all accessible to trucks. Over 60 fully-equipped conference rooms surround the exhibition halls.

Being about 1.5 km away from Hongqiao Transportation Hub, NECC (Shanghai) is linked to Hongqiao Airport and Hongqiao Railway Station by the city's metro lines. Thanks to the convenient national highway network, major cities in the Yangtze River Delta region are easily reachable within 2 hours.
