Downtown streets to be closed for Shanghai Marathon 2018-11-15
The 2018 Shanghai International Marathon will be held on Sunday, featuring a total of 38,000 runners — 25,000 in the 42-kilometer marathon, 6,000 in the 10km event and 7,000 in the 5.5km run.
According to the organizers, nearly 138,000 people applied to take part this year. Apart from quotas given to elite runners who achieved good results in previous years, runners were chosen by drawing lots.
The races start on the Bund and pass along the newly opened Huangpu riverside. The finish line is at Shanghai Stadium. There is a slight adjustment from previous years in the latter part of the course, as runners will go down Longteng Avenue instead of climbing the more challenging Longteng Bridge at the 35km mark.
