Shanghai's social organizations are being encouraged to participate in the monitoring and assessment of garbage sorting by neighborhood and village committees, Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau said on Thursday. The results will be linked to the overall performance of neighborhood and village committees with corresponding awards and punishments, according to a guideline jointly released by the bureau and the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau. Social organizations are encouraged to play a role in education and promotion, project organization and implementation, science and technology research and development, and also increase public participation in garbage sorting, said Jiang Rui, deputy director of the civil affairs bureau.
