Shanghai’s former iron and steel production center in the north is about to become China’s first demonstration zone for cruise liner tourism. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has given an official nod to the city to create the nation’s first “cruise liner tourism development demonstration zone.” Since the Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal in Baoshan District opened in October 2011, Shanghai has become the biggest port for cruise liners in Asia and overtook Barcelona to become the world’s fourth largest in 2016.
