City airports close 2019 with record volume 2020-01-02
After major expansions and an increasing number of flights, Shanghai's two airports handled a record of 122 million passengers in 2019, up 3.5 percent on year.
The Pudong and Hongqiao international airports closed out 2019 with the landing of their last two flights: MU5612 from Harbin to Pudong and MU5160 from Beijing to Hongqiao, both with China Eastern Airlines around midnight.
The two airports handled a total of 784,831 inbound and outbound flights in 2019, up 1.72 percent on year. Cargo turnover reached about 4 million tons, equal with the previous year despite the China-US trade dispute and other unfavorable factors.
