DON’T be surprised if someone knocks on your door this weekend and asks you how you normally get to work, as your reply might help to shape the city’s transport system over the coming decades.

The city government is planning to survey more than 300,000 people about public transport to help it formulate its urban plan through 2040.

“We need to know the current situation before we launch any new measures,” said Li Junhao, an official with the Shanghai Transport Commission.
