THE season of mists and mellow fruitfulness has officially begun in Shanghai.

Following five consecutive days with an average temperature below 22 degrees Celsius recorded, October 4 was yesterday announced as the start of autumn by the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Kong Chunyan, a chief service officer with the bureau, told Shanghai Daily that this is around the time the city usually sees the arrival of autumn, with October 2 often the start date.
