2.5m tomb sweepers set to clog city’s roads 2014-12-05
ALMOST 2.5 million people are expected to visit the city’s cemeteries in the 10 days up to the winter solstice on December 22.
The annual event, which is known locally as dongzhi, is a time when Chinese people pay their respects to deceased relatives by “sweeping” their tombs.
About 1 million people will travel to cemeteries on the day itself, while about 900,000 others are expected to do so on the two days prior, the city’s civil affairs bureau said yesterday.
