More water pumped back to stop sinking 2015-01-09
SHANGHAI is increasing the quantity of water it pumps back into the ground to counteract subsidence caused by extraction, officials said yesterday.
While last year the quantity of water pumped back was 3.7 times that taken out, this year it will be 4.6 times.
Due to over-extraction from underground water sources between the 1920s to 70s, Shanghai has suffered subsidence.
