Lanterns set to shine next year 2015-01-27
THE Lantern Festival at Yuyuan Garden in Huangpu District is likely to be reinstated in 2016 after being canceled this year due to the New Year’s Eve tragedy on the Bund, a top official said yesterday.
“All risks must be scrutinized and eliminated this year, but we will support Huangpu District in resuming the Yuyuan Lantern Festival next year,” Vice Mayor Zhao Wen said.
Despite the cancelation of five public events due to safety concerns, people will still be able to enjoy 24 activities and celebrations during this year’s Spring Festival and Lantern Festival holidays, tourism authorities said.
